Accessibility

Built to work on any device, on a slow connection

Many of the people this site is for use older phones, screen readers, or a shared computer at a library. That is the baseline we design for.

The standard

We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA. That is a target we hold ourselves to continuously, not a certificate we claim once.

Already in place

  • Every page works from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline
  • A skip link to the main content on every page
  • Touch targets sized for real fingers, and a single-column layout on small screens
  • Text contrast checked against AA, with gold reserved for borders and large text
  • Animation removed for people who ask their device to reduce motion
  • Form fields with real labels, and errors explained in words rather than colour
  • Plain language, and status shown as text as well as colour

Not finished yet

  • Screen reader testing across the full site is not complete
  • Translations other than English are not yet reviewed or published
  • Accessibility details for listed programs depend on what providers report

Report a barrier

If something on this site stopped you, tell us what you were trying to do and what happened. We treat access barriers as faults, not requests. Contact routes are listed on the contact page.

Need this read to you, or in another language?

Say so when you ask for help and we will arrange it where we can, including an interpreter.
