How it works

What happens after you ask for help

No hidden steps. Here is exactly how a request is handled, what we decide and what only a program can decide.

  1. 1. You reach us, however suits you

You can fill in the guided request, call us on (612) 886-8346, or just search resources on your own. None of these require an account, an address or documents.

  2. 2. We read what you told us

A person reviews your request. We look at the area you gave us, the needs you chose, your language and how it is safe to contact you. If something is unclear, we ask rather than guess.

  3. 3. We check the rules before raising your hopes

Programs have service areas, income rules, age rules and capacity limits. We check those first, and we tell you which parts still need to be confirmed by the program itself.

  4. 4. We ask before sharing anything

If a referral would help, we ask you which organization we may contact and what we may tell them. You can say no to any of it, and you can change your mind later.

  5. 5. We follow up on what actually happened

A referral is not the end. We check whether you were able to reach the program and whether you actually received help. We are not yet assigning ongoing case workers, so this follow-up happens by phone and email.

  6. 6. We say so when there is nothing

Some needs have far more demand than supply. When there is no program that can help, we say that plainly, explain what we tried and look at other options with you.
